The Supply, Trading & Fuels group is looking for a detail-oriented, self-motivated, and analytical team player. You will create value and manage risk by analyzing and developing strategies for the power market. You will build and implement strategies that ensure our customers and communities receive affordable and reliable energy.
Reporting to the Manager of Market Operations Strategy (MOS), the Senior Analyst will develop energy trading and asset optimization strategies for market participation. The Senior Analyst will also be responsible for developing and implementing day-ahead and real-time dispatch strategies for optimizing SRP’s portfolio of generating assets and serving as a knowledge source for Western utility market strategies.
The Analyst will work closely with business partners to conduct analyses and develop models to help drive business, financial, and markets decisions.
Using analytical, statistical and advanced modeling skills, the candidate will collect, analyze and interpret complex data sets in order to develop and recommend data-driven solutions to business challenges.
Job Responsibilities:
Independently initiates analysis related to power trading activities and competitive markets including:
mathematical and economics analysis of market software and power systems applications results to determine validity of prices and congestion, and optimality of solutions with respect to the market model, incurred cost and impact on reliability of the power system grid
validation and testing of market outcomes to address market participant’s disputes or inquiries, assisting in the evaluation of problems and their alternative courses of action
Assists traders with trade execution, compliance, testing and recommending new trading and bidding strategies
Helps identify potential operational risk scenarios and works with the power traders to design hedging strategies to mitigate that risk
Provides other energy-related analysis, including natural gas, power, carbon, and renewable resources, including economic aspects and seasonal variabilities
Responsible for maintenance and update of asset optimization model
Aids in monitoring fleet performance, trading positions, and operational risks
Ensures successful integration of new resources and positions into the portfolio
Responsible for authoring and maintaining operating procedures and training materials
Stays abreast of daily market conditions and emerging market trends and developments throughout the Western utility space
Works with a variety of computer programs that support trading/scheduling activities, and tests new software or modeling implementations.
Perform complex statistical analysis to identify trends or patterns in unit operations and market bidding to enhance SRPs market participation
Create dashboards and lead visual analytics

Education:
Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering or a closely related field from an accredited institution that prepares the employee for the assignment.
Experience & Skills:
Five (5) years full time of professional experience, with relevant analytical and business research experience and preferrable an understanding of the energy industry.
Skills in data querying and manipulation using tools like SQL, Power BI or Tableau are preferred.
Additionally, the ability to identify and implement process improvements, excellent analytical skills, and strong Microsoft Excel spreadsheet software skills.
Curiosity and passion for working with models and data approaches to help solve complex problems and be comfortable performing, critically evaluating, and communicating quantitative analysis.

Must be detail-oriented with the ability to synthesize information from several sources
Must possess strong communication skills in writing, presenting, and interpreting complex concepts to present to other groups around SRP, including senior management and executives.
Additional Information:
Occasional travel to SRP facilities and industry organizational functions. Frequent contact with customers and outside agencies, as well as suppliers of equipment and services. Responsible for both long term project schedules and real time troubleshooting of operational issues. Ability to use engineering tools required for the job (i.e., computer, etc.).
