Housed in a 100,000 ft2 laboratory with over 200 full and part-time employees, the Advanced Structures and Composites Center (ASCC) at the University of Maine is a recognized research leader in civil infrastructure, energy and defense applications. The Center has won numerous national and international awards for innovations such as the bridge-in-a-backpack, the first grid-connected floating offshore wind turbine in the US which utilized an innovative concrete hull and a composite tower, and has been recognized as Transportation Champion for Change at the White House.
