This position serves as Deputy Director for the Southwest (SW) Region in DOT's Division of Transportation Systems Development.  Along with the Regional Director, this position is responsible for managing the SW Region, including promotion of the regions programs and services, establishing regional goals, objectives and performance standards, building and maintaining effective internal and external working relationships, organizing and facilitating the regional management team to achieve a high level of participation in decision making, through communication and follow through.  This position participates fully in the division management team, is a regular participant and representative in departmental management activities and acts as a conduit between the region and the division and department.   The Deputy Director is expected to maintain a working knowledge of regional programs, projects and services to ensure that high quality products and services are delivered, consistent with the Department/Division’s vision, mission, policies and standards.  The Deputy Director also works with the Regional Director and the management team in recruiting, hiring, developing and retaining highly skilled, well-trained and motivated regional staff. 

This position is in schedule-range (81-01) with an annual salary of $99,840 - $113,963, plus excellent benefits. A 2 year career executive trial period is required. Pay for current state employees will be set in accordance with the Wisconsin State Compensation Plan.

Qualified applicants will have experience with all the following:

• Formal supervisory experience that includes overseeing a variety of professional staff and program areas, and includes experience performing a wide scope of managment duties.
• Experience managing at least one complex program/project, which may impact multiple program areas, has stakeholder impacts, and/or involves very public profile issues
  • Examples of programs/projects may include infrastructure, facilities/buildings, strategic planning, financial management, budgetary, performance measures, transportation, engineering, program controls, surveying, highway maintenance, real estate, environmental impacts etc.
• Experience managing multiple program areas

In addition to having all the above, well qualified applicants will have experience with one or more of the following:

• Significant formal supervisory experience that includes overseeing a variety of professional staff and program areas, and includes experience performing a wide scope of management duties.
• Significant experience managing complex programs/projects, which may impact multiple program areas, has stakeholder impacts, and/or involves very public profile issues
  • Examples of programs/projects may include infrastructure, facilities/buildings, strategic planning, financial management, budgetary, performance measures, transportation, engineering, program controls, surveying, highway maintenance, real estate, environmental impacts etc.
