Join the Center for Watershed Protection (CWP) team and use your skills to make a substantial difference in watershed practices across the nation. We are looking for a water resources engineer with a strong technical foundation and excellent communication skills. This engineer’s main role will be to help CWP provide stormwater site plan reviews in Washington, DC. In addition, there will be opportunities on a wide variety of other CWP projects that include:
- Designing innovative systems of structural and non-structural stormwater practices to improve water quality.
- Writing national and state guidance manuals to build more effective local storm water programs and design more effective stormwater practices.
- Working with local governments to develop watershed plans that protect sensitive natural resources.
- Conducting literature reviews and research on stormwater and watershed questions.
- Teaching your skills to others at conferences, presentations, and workshops.
This full-time permanent position is a work at home position with periodic work from Washington DC or other locations throughout the country.
Salary and Benefits: This position is expected to pay between $60,000 to $75,000 depending on education & experience. The Center offers a comprehensive benefits package, including:

Qualifications: Bachelor’s in civil or environmental engineering or related field. Strong writing and speaking skills essential, with demonstrated ability to translate complex engineering and science concepts into clear and understandable terms. Additional desirable skills and experience include:
- Knowledge of stormwater regulations and design standards
- Experience working with local or state governments
- Understanding of Stormwater BMP Design
- Experience in hydrologic and hydraulic theory and modeling
- Knowledge of floodplain regulations
- Expertise with CAD and GIS software
- Experience in project management
Experience in project and grant management is a plus. This position is primarily virtual and requires travel to Maryland, Pennsylvania, and other parts of the country for projects as needed, but actual travel is expected to be less than 20% per year.
