The County of San Luis Obispo is offering a career opportunity for an engineering/architectural design and construction professional to join an APWA accredited public works department in leading design and construction management teams on infrastructure and facilities capital projects. The Division Manager will join a team of 300 public works professionals who provide the full range of public works services across San Luis Obispo County. The position manages a staff operating in the following elements:

Engineering and Architectural Design
Drafting
Project Management
Construction Management
Resident Engineer
Inspection and Materials Testing

The position works closely with the Department’s Transportation, Utilities, Facilities Planning and Environmental Divisions in delivering capital projects from design through construction using multiple contracting methods. Projects include transportation improvements, water and wastewater infrastructure, and facilities repair and remodel.

Position responsibilities include:

Defining and developing a collaborative, customer service-oriented staff
Planning and delegating design and construction management assignments
Coordinating with funding agencies, client departments, and public stakeholders
Ensuring regulatory and funding mandates are met throughout the delivery of projects
Preparing and presenting various staff reports to the County Board of Supervisors
Managing division budget and finance oversight on various assigned programs

This position offers an annual salary range of $106,140 – $129,000 plus a generous benefit package.

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a bachelor's degree in a related field. (Job-related experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.) In addition, four years of increasingly responsible professional-level experience performing a variety of administrative or fiscal activities -- two years of the required experience must be in a supervisory position.

A master's degree in Business Administration/Management, Public Administration, Finance, or Public Works related field may substitute for one year of the required non-supervisory experience.
