Position Description

Santee Cooper is currently seeking an Accounting Manager to provide strong leadership over key Accounting areas of Santee Cooper. The Accounting Manager reports to and works closely with the Controller. The Accounting Manager also partners with peer financial leadership to recommend and implement financial strategies across the organization.

The position is directly accountable for the overall administration, planning, and supervision for the following Accounting functions:

Fuels/Inventory Accounting
Debt Accounting
Asset & Project Accounting, and
Accounts Payable

Essential Job Responsibilities

Planning, organizing, and directing the respective Accounting functions.

Hiring, training and retaining a competent and capable Accounting staff.

Strengthening and promoting a culture that facilitates continuous improvement, inclusion and diversity, and strong employee engagement.

Understanding how the Accounting area supports the company and how we can continue to increase that value. This includes directing and supervising 10-12 employees within the respective Accounting functions of their jobs and areas.

Meeting with peers and management outside of accounting to develop working relationships and determine information needs, new Accounting processes or policies.

Presenting to all levels of management including executive management or the Board of Directors. Being cognizant of current corporate and strategic efforts to prioritize financial requirements.

Serving as needed on any cross-functional or corporate teams to address specific needs or development recommendations. This position will also be expected to substitute for the Controller when needed.

Displaying strong communication skills and possessing the ability to explain/discuss Accounting matters at a conversational level.

Position requires a bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Economics or a closely related field.
Candidates must have ten years of financial accounting experience. Will consider eight years of financial accounting experience with combination of CPA or advanced degree.

Candidate should have extensive knowledge of accounting standards and procedures, including a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB), Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), and National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC). Candidate must be a seasoned and mature leader with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, develop strong working relationships, and accomplish results through others. CPA, MBA, electric and water utility experience preferred.
