SCG, Inc. is a mechanical consulting firm specializing in forensic analysis of construction projects, typically in litigation. SCG performs expert witness and consulting services in the investigation, review, evaluation, and analysis of all types of mechanical systems including HVAC, plumbing and fire protection, in all building types (residential, commercial, institutional, and healthcare projects). Evaluations include design, installation, equipment, systems and product performance for compliance to plans, specifications, contract documents, Federal, State and local codes and industry standards. Projects involve construction defects, construction claims, product defects, failure analysis, personal injury, consulting and third party review on existing projects.
SCG currently performs work in California, Nevada, and Arizona.Travel is required. The ideal candidate will provide support work for the principal consultant, with the potential for growth into the role as a designated expert, if desired.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Be able to work independently while supporting the needs and expectations of the Principal Consultant.
Perform and apply building code analysis.
Perform research and analysis on products (i.e., submittal review), including manufacturer’s product literature and installation instructions
Perform site inspections of HVAC, plumbing and fire protection systems (or as requested by our client), to document and analyze as necessary to build the project file.
Provide reports and spreadsheets as part of data reduction and analysis.
Attend meetings and mediations with our clients or co-consultants/experts.
Review and analyze project documentation, including plans, specifications, permits, correspondence, requests for information (RFIs), change directives (CDs), submittals, contractor change requests, as-built drawings, punch list, O & M and other technical manuals, warranties and other project deliverables and documentation, as required.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Minimum 5 years’ experience in mechanical design, construction management, and/or construction trades experience in plumbing and/or HVAC systems.
Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management or related discipline OR plumbing or HVAC contractor’s license OR demonstrated experience in construction management as a Project Engineer or Project Manager for a mechanical contractor.
Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
Have some demonstrated working knowledge of the building codes or ability to assign / apply the appropriate building codes to specific construction design or installation.
Ability to read and understand construction drawings and specifications.
Integral understanding of typical construction procedures and project management principles.
Some familiarity with construction safety standards.
Good knowledge of MS Office (Work, Excel, PowerPoint).
Demonstrated work ethic and eagerness to excel.
Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
A team player with leadership abilities.
Additional Qualifications, Experience and Training Highly Desired:
Professional Engineering License (P.E.) in Mechanical preferred or Licensed Architect with demonstrated experience in MEP design, construction and coordination.
10+ years of related field or project engineering experience in construction projects.
Previous experience in the investigation of construction defects or construction claims.
Previous mechanical design experience.
Ability to draft and produce construction drawings.
Ability to perform Title 24 analysis or calculations, working knowledge of Title 24 programs is a plus.
