Capital Power Corporation is currently seeking an innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Decatur team.
Reporting to the Plant Manager, The Senior Plant Engineer is accountable for the delivery of day-to-day engineering and technical support for their assigned asset.
Key accountabilities include:
Uses sound engineering principles and prepares technical solutions to highly complex and diverse mechanical/civil structural problems at their assigned asset.
Completes the design and manages the execution of complex repair tasks related to mechanical/civil structural engineering as required.
Provides detailed interpretation of laws, regulations, statutes and standards associated with the mechanical/civil structural engineering discipline as required to facilitate the operations. and maintenance of their assigned facility.
Monitors Plant performance and heat balance for continual output and efficiency improvements.
Develops predictive tools, modifies maintenance practices, reviews of the outputs from predictive and preventative maintenance tasks, and implements design changes to increase. reliability without disruption to production processes at their assigned facility.
Reviews, understands, applies, and develops internal engineering guidelines, procedures and standards.
Contributes to organizational change initiatives where appropriate through front end input as well as post implementation support.
Able to recommend and implement safe and effective engineering solutions relating to plant emissions, control systems, equipment failure, equipment optimization, etc.
Ownership and accountability is taken for work tasks and deliverables. Seeks advice (when required) from a technical and work process perspective, with discussions about the most effective way to complete a given deliverable.
Responsible for Management of Change compliance and review for their assigned asset.
Acts as a role model by demonstrating a focus on HSE related concerns by timely completion of tasks such as inspections, audits, HSE related work orders.
Assists in the development and interpretation of engineering related HSE standards and procedures.
Ensure asset engineering records are properly maintained and updated.
Works collaboratively with other members of the Engineering Department and builds strong relationships with other work groups to integrate sound Asset Engineering practices into both the day to day and long-term efforts of Capital Power.
Integrate into the Operations management team for assigned asset and provide mechanical/civil structural engineering insight into the operations and maintenance activities of the facility. Provide O&M insight to the engineering group to advance the creation of effective solutions to facility issues.
Provides leadership, mentoring and guidance to Engineering Students, Engineers in Training (EITs) and Engineers throughout the Engineering Group. This includes providing input into development plans for these employees.
Takes action to continually improve technical and management skillset through formal and informal training opportunities.
Works closely with environment department to ensure appropriate monitoring and compliance is maintained.
Engineering Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Process or other closely related engineering fields.
Between 8 to 12 years of experience in practicing engineering including a minimum of 3 years of dedicated engineering experience in an operating plant setting.
Experience equivalencies may be considered on a case by case basis.
Advanced understanding of Pressure piping and vessel design, maintenance and compliance to codes and standards and/or Rotating equipment and related engineering/technical knowledge (vibration, lube, thermography)
Solid understanding of civil structural engineering principals
Thorough understanding of maintenance processes, methods and techniques as they apply in an industrial setting, with a focus on power plants systems.
Strong communication skills (written, spoken)
Plant site office, frequent field visits
