Alaska Testlab (ATL) is a one-of-a-kind employer-based out of Anchorage, AK. ATL specializes in construction field testing, laboratory testing of soils, rock, aggregates, concrete, masonry and bituminous mixtures, special inspection services, and other specialty services throughout Alaska.
We are currently recruiting Materials Testing Technicians at levels I, II, and III in Anchorage. This is a full-time, seasonal position from May through October.
Alaska Testlab employs Materials Testing Technicians who are responsible for performing field testing and construction inspection in accordance with published standards and ATL laboratory policies and procedures. This position primarily utilizes a 40lb gauge to run tests on construction materials in the field. This position is also responsible for making concrete cylinders, collecting samples, and performing laboratory testing as needed.
Perform field testing on various construction materials including soil, aggregate, concrete, and asphalt.
Perform inspection duties related to anchors, soil, and asphalt construction.
Perform soil compaction/density testing on multiple projects in accordance with ASTM and project specifications.
Working with less experienced technicians on proper field procedures.
Test concrete for slump, air, and conformance to project specifications.
Make test cylinders in accordance with ASTM and other standards.
Monitor work procedures for compliance with project specifications.
Prepare and submit written daily field reports summarizing daily activities/observation and density test calculations and results.
Communicate with office, contractors, clients, and on-site personnel about schedule, testing, and results.
Calibrate and perform routine maintenance on field and laboratory equipment.
Deliver concrete and soil samples to the lab and properly in process samples.
Maintain equipment and vehicles.
Perform testing in the laboratory on construction materials.
Work in the concrete room prepping and performing tests on concrete cylinders, cores, masonry block, and prisms for compressive strength testing. Break cylinders, prisms, masonry block and cubes of concrete.
Other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
Minimum requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent. One to three years of related work experience is preferred.
Certificates, Licenses & Registrations
Must be 18 years of age or older and have a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.
ACI Certification (concrete sampling and field testing) preferred.
WAQTC Certification preferred.
Troxler Certification preferred.
ICC Certification (soils) preferred.
MOA licensure as Inspector for anchors is preferred.
