The Director of Quality for Global Power Tools will lead the efforts to implement integrated systems for managing quality processes. Reporting to VP of Operations this role is the key point of contact for all quality initiatives & metrics. Partnering with site D.O.’s and Quality Leaders to ensure that quality KPI’s are being achieved. The role requires a high level of knowledge of both quality management and techniques and is required to be the lead quality systems leader and a strong technical resource to the site teams. This includes human work factors, logistics, material flow and production data to identify trends and areas requiring quality improvement. This global leader will work across ATG’s operations to identify and prioritize opportunities to drive continuous improvement in our quality results and Cost of Failure (COF) metrics. Additionally, this position will provide consultation on complex projects and is considered to be a top level contributor/specialist regarding quality. Key Responsibilities - Primary owner of the GPT Customer Complaint and Response program. Ensure that 1) customer is satisfied as soon as possible; 2) complaint data is standardized and collected by customer service; 3) defective samples are collected for analysis as required; 4) plant corrective actions are executed as required; and 5) consistent and timely communications to all parties. This will require development and sustaining oversight.
- Assures that product quality levels are properly identified and adhered to for all markets served. For instance, there are different repeatability levels for product in the EMEA market vs. NA. This role must ensure that the market requirements are understood and met by producing sites.
- Manage the overall Quality Management System per defined standards. Internal expertise utilized to ensure sites are meeting QMS requirements.
- Lead Continuous Improvement (CI) initiatives using methodologies such as Kaizen/Six Sigma. Uses lean tools (standard work, visual management, etc) and advanced quality concepts (such as FMEA, DMAIC, DEMEDI, APQP, PPAP, etc.) to continuously improve the quality of product and reduce cost of poor quality.
- Transform QC (quality control) based system to a QA (quality assurance) based system
- Managing customer issues to effective resolution
- Managing and enhancing the effectiveness of the CAPA system
- Driving the process to achieve effective root cause solutions
- Managing and enhancing the effectiveness of the internal audit system
- Establishing and maintaining key departmental goals, objectives and performance metrics
- Managing the process of documenting, enhancing and maintaining effective inspections, tests and calibration systems to assure product compliance.
- Develop, train, direct, coach, evaluate, and lead quality engineers, technicians and auditors.
- Review engineering specifications and related information to obtain knowledge regarding manufacturing methods, procedures,
and activities affecting plant capacity and efficiency. - Identify opportunities or implement changes to continuously improve products or reduce costs using knowledge of machining processes, tooling and production equipment, assembly methods, quality control standards, or product design, materials and parts.
- Works with Manufacturing, Marketing, Strategic Sourcing, and Engineering to reduce incoming reject rates through the analysis and solution of recurring quality problems. Monitors and reports progress of incoming rejects reduction.
- Partners with Commercial, Engineering, and Ops leadership to define warranty budget and drive focus and continuous improvement. Main goal will be to lead effective monitoring, reporting, and corrective actions for warranty performance. Holds monthly warranty reviews to drive performance.
- Assist in the layout of equipment, materials, and workspace to ensure safety and quality objectives are being met.
- Implement statistical process control (SPC) in key processes to reduce variation.
- Monitor supplier process capability and quality performance utilizing product, surveys and on-site audits. Develop/maintain supplier scorecard and CAPA activities.
