DALLAS AREA RAPID TRANSIT SEEKS A HEAD OF DATA ANALYTICS
Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART) is a regional transit agency authorized under Chapter 452 of the Texas Transportation Code and was created by voters and funded with a one-cent local sales tax in August 1983. The service area encompasses 700 square miles, and consists of 13 North Texas cities, with combined populations of 2.5 million residents. DART operates a bus fleet of 649 vehicles and 93 miles of light rail with 64 stations. For FY 2018, DART has 3,816 budgeted staff positions, approximately 1,700 of them hourly workers. Reporting to the Vice President/Chief Information Officer, the Head of Data Analytics is a newly created position responsible for providing leadership, direction and oversight of the enterprise data analytics and decision support for DART. This person will be a member of the leadership team responsible for managing and working across complex cross-functional projects and teams to support data analytics at DART. The Head of Data Analytics (HDA) will use relationship building and influence to work with key leaders and stakeholders to prioritize analytics requirements, establish dashboards and Key Performance Indicator (KPI) reporting to support and influence business decisions. This role will require someone who is dedicated to analytics, with the ability to create simplicity within a complex operational environment to help move the business forward.
Candidates for this position should be exceptional technology leaders, capable of planning and directing the Data Analytics staff and coordinating efforts with other divisions and DART departments within a sophisticated, fast-paced environment. In addition to data analytics, the HDA will be responsible for Enterprise Integration in a smoothly connected and secure environment. Exceptional communications and “people” skills are essential. The HDA must have the ability to relate highly technical information in a manner that is readily comprehensible to laypersons. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated to maintain current knowledge of technology and best practices in the information technology and analytics fields and participate in an appropriate level of professional networking.
The position requires a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Information Technology or a related field. The selected candidate’s background should consist of 10+ years of combined experience in an information analytic environments environment, covering both Big Data reporting and Complex Event Processing responsibilities in technical, analyst, and management roles to include five 5+ years’ experience with managing/leadership experience within complex IT organizations. The HDA must have the ability to work independently to fulfill defined analytical goals; excellent time management, communication, decision-making, presentation, negotiating and organizational skills; excellent problem-solving skills; strong attention to detail; proven business interaction with other business functions and management within a service management or enterprise analytic context; and the ability to be dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers. The HDA will get first-hand customer information and utilize it for improvements in products and services; act with customers in mind; and establish and maintain effective relationships with customers, gaining their trust and respect.
