Announcement: ODOT18-2733oc Structural Design Engineer (CR) – Professional Engineer 1 Highway Division – Technical Services and Engineering
We are recruiting for two (2) structural design engineers to join our innovative Bridge Design Unit to act as contract reviewers (CR) by assisting in preparing A&E consultant contracts that include structural engineering services. These positions also provide structural analysis, design services, and technical guidance within ODOT. This position can be in any of the following locations:

This position is represented by the Association of Engineering Employees of Oregon (AEE).
Duties and Responsibilities:
Establish and maintain positive relations with consultant staff and maintain required flow of verbal and written communication with consultants on contract issues.
Review project work to establish project acceptability per the contract and recommend acceptance, including review of final project documentation.
Participate on internal support team to determine consultant compliance with the contract.
Assist in reviewing consultant project schedules, budget usage, plans, specifications, and other required deliverables.
Recognize and act promptly upon potential changes or additional work to the contract, conflicts or ambiguities in the plans and specifications, and changes in conditions.
Assist in writing design contract language and managing bridge design contracts.
Perform bridge and structures engineering of simple to complex bridges and other transportation-related structures.
Provide project scoping consultation and engineering support.
Perform modeling for structural analysis.
Perform design and detailing for simple to complex bridges and structures.
Prepare estimate of probable construction cost for simple to complex bridges and structures.
Coordinate with the project specification writer to prepare construction specifications.
Participate on project teams.
Complete preliminary design and final design phases.
Direct and review the work of structural designers and drafters in the preparation of plans and detailing structures.
Perform a complete engineering analysis and load rating of new bridges.
Complete design and structure cost data and calculation books.
Desired Attributes/Application Scoring Criteria: In addition to your related work experience and education, we will use the attributes below to determine whom to interview. You are not required to have all of these attributes, but please make sure that the ones you do have are clearly demonstrated in your application materials. Your application materials may be graded on spelling, grammar, punctuation, and presentation.
Experience with bridge and transportation-related structures engineering.
Knowledge or experience in other transportation-related civil engineering fields.
Knowledge and experience with A&E contracts.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Typical office environment the majority of the time with occasional work in the field.
Field work requires working on bridges of varying heights and may require walking adjacent to fast moving traffic, stooping, bending or climbing around hazardous locations, working 20 to 400 feet or more above ground, traffic, railways, or water, and using safety equipment.
Occasional day or night work required outside of normal work schedule.
Minimum Qualifications: A valid professional engineer's (PE) license in civil, structural, or transportation-related engineering. Note: If registered in another state, successful applicants will be required to obtain professional registration in the state of Oregon within six months of hire.
Special Qualifications: Driving is an essential function of this position. A valid driver license and an acceptable driving record are required for this position. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s).
