Plans and directs activities associated with the development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for manufacturing processes, materials, and products.
Through integrated product/process team participation (with engineering, manufacturing, and procurement) contributes to product and process design and implementation for compliance to customer requirements and the prevention and resolution of non-conformances.
Supports manufacturing process improvements, making a significant contribution to the strategic goal of quality improvement
Develops and initiates standards and methods for inspection, testing, and evaluation.
Devises sampling procedures and designs and develops forms and instructions for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality and reliability data.
Establishes program to evaluate precision and accuracy of production equipment and testing, measurement, and analytical equipment and facilities.
Develops and implements methods and procedures for disposition of discrepant material and devises methods to assess cost and responsibility as part of validating raw materials and vendor supplied components.
Evaluates manufacturing problems, product problems, and field complaints to determine opportunities for improving manufacturing, product performance, and field service
Directs workers engaged in measuring and testing product and tabulating data concerning materials, product, or process quality and reliability. Monitors process control.
Develops and implements gauge and fixture calibration methods and procedures for those instruments that affect quality judgments.
Compiles and writes training material, and conducts training sessions on quality control activities.
Coordinates continuous quality improvements for processes and products.
Promotes Quality awareness and participates in the solution of any quality problems.
Interacts with different departments to retrieve information regarding quality issues
Ensures that all the customer requirements are met and the resulting product is the highest quality possible. Interacts with the customer to resolve product quality issues.
Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering or related discipline
A minimum of 3 years Quality Assurance experience in a manufacturing environment.
Implementation or maintenance of ISO / QS 9000 type quality systems.
Self-directed, results driven team player with the ability to work well with different departments
Strong oral and written communication and interpersonal skills required for interfacing with suppliers and internal manufacturing and production departments
Successful application and implementation of continuous improvement tools.
Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office and Outlook
Experience with Lean Manufacturing, 5S and Six Sigma a plus
Ability to accurately use, understand, and read a variety of measuring tools, gauges, and instruments
Must be a strong individual contributor with a drive to learn
Project planning skills
Metallurgical background a plus
Requires periods of sedentary work, daily standing and walking on shop floor
Requires repetitive upper body movement – keyboard and monitor use
Visual and hearing acuity
This work requires the following activities: climbing, bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, reaching, sitting, standing, walking, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, repetitive motions, talking, hearing and visual acuity. The work is performed primarily indoors.
May occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields, and mandatory hearing protection.
