The successful candidate will work with SSI Scientists on a variety of projects in modeling, data analysis and algorithm development. The ideal candidate for this position is comfortable working independently and in small groups to develop ideas that meet customer needs, solicit funding, write proposals, and carry through phases of development from concept to prototype.
An MS or PhD degree in the physical sciences (physics, chemistry, atmospheric sciences, optics, etc.) or engineering (electrical, aerospace, chemical, mechanical, etc.).
Experience should include the development of fundamental physical models, data analysis algorithms, and/or sensor concepts involving remote sensing for aerospace, industrial, or medical applications.
US citizenship and ability to obtain a US Government Security Clearance.
Additional Factors Considered:
Post-degree work experience.
Post-Doctoral work is desirable and counts towards work experience.
Proficiency in current methods of mathematical modeling of physical phenomena.
Experience in the development of scientific and engineering software.
Familiarity with chemistry, molecular spectroscopy, and radiative transfer phenomena.
Familiarity with data science including analysis and reduction techniques, numerical algorithms, control systems, big data and deep learning concepts.
Experience transitioning software to microprocessors, FPGAs, and/or GPUs.
Demonstrated accomplishment in team building, customer relations, technical marketing, and proposal writing.
Outstanding written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills.
About Spectral Sciences, Inc.
Spectral Sciences, Inc. was founded in 1981 by five coworkers with a shared vision of a collaborative research and development environment with a focus on physics, chemistry, engineering, and related fields. This evolved into a fully employee-owned organization where doctoral-level scientists join together to make exciting discoveries and bring insightful solutions to complex scientific problems.
Thirty-seven years later, SSI has become an internationally recognized resource hub for expertise in spectroscopy, remote sensing and imaging, and radiative transfer processes, among others. SSI’s scientists and engineers have built its foundation on extensive US government contract research and development, and are branching into commercial markets across multiple industries from defense companies to established technology organizations and start-ups.
From conception, prototype development, to field testing—the original vision of our founders is still alive today, as we work to bring clarity, insight, and innovation to advanced scientific technology solutions.
