The Department of Environmental Services is seeking an experienced Stormwater Design Engineer to prepare construction drawings and documents for various projects within the Engineering Bureau. This Engineer will work closely with Planners/Project Managers within the Office of Sustainability and Environmental Management on Stormwater Management (SWM) watershed retrofit and Best Management Practice (BMP) projects which are part of the implementation of Arlington County's Stormwater Master Plan and Stormwater Capital Improvement Program (CIP).
The Engineering Bureau provides full-scale in-house surveying, design, and construction management services for public works capital improvement projects. The projects will feature watershed retrofits to add a stormwater management facility within public right-of-way in built-out urban settings to provide stormwater treatment.
Specific duties include:
Working with interdisciplinary project teams to scope projects and coordinating projects with County, State, and Federal Agencies;
Developing design plans using AutoCAD Civil3D;
Using various hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software in the design and analysis of green infrastructure projects;
Creating project schedules and establishing project tasks and deadlines;
Identifying Right-of-Way and easement needs and working with the County's Real Estate Bureau to provide information and exhibits for Right-of-Way and easement acquisition;
Determining and obtaining needed permits;
Preparing construction cost estimates, specifications, bid documents and Request for Proposals for design services;
Awarding contracts, managing consultants, and reviewing plans; and
Providing technical support during construction and responding to Requests for Information.
Minimum (Journey Engineer Level): A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field plus some experience in the design of stormwater management and BMP projects using AutoCAD Civil3D or similar software.
Minimum (Senior Engineer Level): A Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field plus significant experience in the design of stormwater management and BMP projects using AutoCAD Civil3D or similar software.
Substitution: Experience may not be substituted for the Engineering Degree requirement.
Desirables: Preference may be given to applicants with one or more the following:
Experience preparing plans, specifications, and estimates for SWM and BMP projects in constrained urban settings or as part of Green Streets projects;
Experience with stream restoration projects;
Using hydrologic and hydraulic modeling;
Master's Degree in Engineering with a Water Resources related focus; and/or
Registration as an Engineer In Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
