The Virginia Department of Transportation is seeking to hire as an Assistant Director for the Capital Outlay Projects. This position will provide leadership and direction for Capital Outlay Project Managers and to ensure administrative and technical efficiency and effectiveness. Serve as the Assistant Director of Capital Outlay and ensure the divisions goals and objectives are accomplished while implementing Project Management best practices.
This position will be responsible for overseeing statewide building projects through the application of project management best practices while streamlining project delivery and adhering to schedule, budget and quality control standards; developing strategic plans and implement programs and procedures which effectively promote and achieve agency and divisional goals and objectives; developing strategic plans and implementing programs and procedures; and ensuring that AE firms and contractors are delivering quality and value to VDOT.
We are looking for an individual who has experience in organizational change and process improvement, experience with implementing project management best practices, experience with large portfolio management and experience with Virginia’s Bureau of Capital Outlay Management.
Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of building design and construction. Comprehensive knowledge and experience applying engineering principles and practices. Knowledge of resource management and allocation techniques. Knowledge of leadership, management, and supervisory principles and practices. Ability to manage and supervise professional staff. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to build relationships and manage stakeholders. Valid Professional Engineer’s License or Architect’s License required. Working knowledge of the Commonwealth of Virginia Construction and Professional Services Manual, Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code and other codes used in the building design and construction.
